Feature: Looking Back at the Rock Band Franchise

Back in September of 2009, I wrote an article on the state of the rhythm game genre, which was written prior to Guitar Hero 5, The Beatles: Rock Band, Lego Rock Band, Rock Band 3, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Rocksmith being released.

That sentence in its own holds the real problem of why the rhythm genre died. In just a single span of a year we saw six music games being released for this generation's consoles. My conclusion from the article was that unless Publishers and Developers started to innovate their music titles, we would see an end to the rhythm game genre. As the years passed, this has become more evident as Guitar Hero was put on hiatus back in 2011 and Harmonix, the company behind the Rock Band series, released its last piece of weekly DLC on April 2, 2013.

Review: DMC - Devil May Cry: Virgil's Downfall (360 DLC)

Virgil's Downfall puts you in the driver's seat for Virgil's descent into madness. His defeat by his brother has not left him in the greatest of moods, and you can see the progression of how his mind slowly becomes unhinged as revenge starts to overwhelm his mind.

Feature: This Generation - Part IV

For the purposes of these features, "This Generation" refers to software found on the following hardware: Wii, DS/3DS, PSP, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. Trends found on the PC platform will be addressed but because the demarcations between PC hardware iterations can be foggy, establishing what is of this generation is much more difficult to finalize.
"This Generation" includes major trends or evolutionary notes that will, in this writer's opinion, be identified strongly with this generation of games and hardware for years to come.
The fourth item to hallmark this period of gaming: Episodic Games and DLC.

Borderlands 2: Mechromancer DLC is Here

People playing Borderlands 2 with a hankering for cute girls who can control robots will be happy to note that the new Mecromancer DLC has gone live for the game. For $10 players can get their mitts on the new playable class unless you happen to be one of those fancy pants Premier Club edition owners, in which case you get her for free.

The girl even has a name (it's Gaige), and a big, burly robot to boss around. So, if she sounds like your sort of character get downloading, buying, et cetera except if you're really not into DLC in which case commence angry fist waving, and start a heated debate on your gaming message board of choice.  As for me, I'll be taking the same approach as I did with the first game: wait a couple of years and get it with all the things at a Steam sale for a sack of nickles, and a button. See you in 2015, Borderlands 2!  ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ)
