Hardware: FPS Freek CQC Signature (KontrolFreek)

It's often the most ridiculous, small thing that makes a difference. Like a $0.23 cotter pin that fails and takes a 60 tonne passenger ferry out of commission for weeks. The FPS Freeks are just like that: little things that make a big difference.

I've always somewhat loathed the Playstation 3 controller for the simple reason that the sticks are topped by convex pads. I've lost track of the number of times my thumbs have slipped because of the shape or because palm sweat has lubricated my fingers enough to slide off.

For a puzzle game, issues like this are minor. But during competitive multiplayer games or just playing a single-player shooter or action game, it often means a quick death because traction was lost.

The FPS Freeks solves the problem by creating a ridged-top and more traction thanks to the kind of rubber it's made out of. An added bonus is that the FPS Freeks make the sticks taller, which actually made the controller more comfortable to hold in my big hands.

They're quick and easy to install and just as easy to remove if you come across a friend that wants to play with a controller in its "natural" state.

And they're just as easy to remove/replace on an Xbox 360 controller, if you so wish.

The FPS Freeks are an easy and cheap way to address a problem with the Playstation 3 controller and for that they're recommended.
