Preview: Call of Duty: Ghosts (Multi-Platform)

Set in the near future when the United States is no longer considered a world superpower, Call of Duty: Ghosts features the emergence of a threatening "unseen enemy." Rather than simply install a carbon monoxide detector or have the heat exchanger on their furnace checked out like most other countries would, the US forms a rag-tag group of elite soldiers to combat the threat. Commence dramatic rappelling!
There's always a little disappointment when there are screenshots featuring underwater gun play without some indication players will be able to use spear guns. The classic film Thunderball created this expectation in my brain and it has never wavered. Something I appreciate about the Call of Duty franchise is its constant willingness to throw the player from one exotic location to another, even if it's underwater.
How much of a role will stealth play in Call of Duty: Ghosts? Well, if this screenshot and the game's subtitle are anything to extrapolate from, the entire game may be garotting unaware enemies. Of course, one can't ignore the first part of the title -- Call of Duty -- so the chances of a pure stealth experience are about 1 in KABOOM!
Smoky jungle environments (typically caused by multiple explosions and explosion-induced fires) and dusty camouflage are safe bet for any first-person shooter. Lots of places to hide, jungle traps, fuel depots installed for the purpose of being blown up, and the chance (hopefully) of piranha attack.
Exotic locales abound, especially ones with plenty of sniper positions and water effects that this concept art may indicate.
Can love bloom on the battle field, especially between and a dog and a hardened soldier? Call of Duty: Ghosts will finally answer the question with the addition of motion-captured pooches, which will no doubt play come crucial support role and open the door to play as the dog. The dog looks equipped for warfare! Or a gritty reboot of Cats vs. Dogs.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to launch November 5, 2013 on PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. It's also prepared to launch alongside the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
