Preview: Watch Dogs (Multi-Platform)

Watch Dogs puts the player in the hacker boots of Aiden Pearce in an open world environment where (it looks like) most everything is hackable. Diving into the personal details, rerouting traffic signals to snarl traffic, "leaping" from security cam to security cam to eavesdrop and help other characters sneak around undetected, but it's not just about swiping bank information and "information warfare" there's action, too.
It's not an open world game without cars to drive around, often recklessly. Set in "alternate reality version of Chicago, Illinois" look for slightly skewed versions of well known landmarks.
Even with all the sneaking, guns and parkour feature prominently in the game, which shouldn't be a surprise because Ubisoft Montreal -- Assassin's Creed -- is spearheading the project. A perpetually masked protagonist with a long coat, is also reminiscent of the AC franchise. Take into account the computer fantasy of the Animus, I wouldn't be surprised if the big twist for Watch Dogs is that it's an Assassin's Creed prequel.
Getting up into someone's business is easier than ever thanks to the ability to hack the "Central Operating System" or CtOS. City Supercomputers can be a real pain to deal with, but Aiden's obviously making good use of the system. I am curious what telecommunications giant will score the branding rights for the phone.
Watch Dogs is expected to arrive November 19, 2013 for Wii U, Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 3; maybe a little later for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
